WEATHER-ravaged Worcestershire will be bidding to win their first one-day match at New Road for 11 months when they entertain Derbyshire in a Norwich Union League Division Two clash tomorrow.

Their grim run goes back to June 14 when they triumphed by 21 runs in a floodlit league encounter with Gloucestershire.

The County have won in two home limited-over games this season -- against Sussex in the Norwich Union League and Northamptonshire in the Benson and Hedges Cup -- but both were at Kidderminster's Chester Road ground.

Worcestershire are also hoping for better fortunes with the weather tomorrow after the first three days of their County Championship Division Two match with Derbyshire have been abandoned without a ball being bowled.

Yesterday play was called off for the day shortly after lunch due to the damage caused by the previous day's rain.

The saturated outfield on the pavilion side was badly affected by mud and proved unplayable despite extensive mopping-up operations by head groundsman Roy McLaren and his staff.

The County's Director of Cricket Tom Moody, however, is optimistic that the wet weather will relent over the weekend.

He said: "We have won one of our two league games so obviously we want to make sure that we get some momentum back into our one-day cricket.

"We have had a number of losses on the bounce and it's been the very small things that have cost us the defeats. We want to address that quickly.

"I'd imagine that we will be looking to make changes to our one-day format. We need to look at the right balance of the team. Paul Pollard will be fit again so he will definitely come into the side and we will be considering other options."

Regarding this week's rain-wrecked Championship match with Derbyshire, he said: "It's frustrating because the guys are very keen to get out there and play.

"The dressing room is still very enthusiastic and we're looking to play some cricket to get more points on the board. It's hard to do that with the weather we've had."

Derbyshire, who will include former New Road spinner Richard Illingworth, go into tomorrow's clash as league leaders after winning their opening two matches against Glamorgan and Essex.

They won only two matches all last season and finished bottom of the table.
