NEWLAND stay unbeaten in the Worcestershire County League Division Five following a winning draw against Corinthians, though their opponents managed to throw away a great position with their inability to score 55 runs off the last ten overs with all wickets left.

NEWLAND v WORCESTER CORINTHIANS

Both Newland openers were back in the pavilion inside the first five overs before Dave White took the attack to the bowlers and soon had the field pushed back. Aided by Jabbar the pair added 70 valuable runs until White departed for 27.

Jabbar quickly passed 50 as the track dried out. Tenney now joined him and the pair had the scoreboard racing along. Jabbar was bowled for a superb 95 when attempting another big hit. The tempo was increased still further when Alan Rock hit a belligerent 29 off 18 balls to see Newland past 200 and beyond.

Newland's final total was 223-6, a game effort following the poor start.

Worcester Corinthians' openers slowly built a platform for their side but Hill (83) and Turner (52) then came out of their shell.

With ten overs remaining and 55 runs required Tolley turned once more to Alan Rock, this time from the pavilion end, his first ball uprooted Hill's off stump.

After this panic set into the Corinthians ranks and it was a shot a ball, Jabbar secured his first wicket but it was Rock doing the damage. Turner tried to hit high but only found Rouse in the deep.

Kadoos rallied briefly for Corinthians smiting a rapid 14 but Rock's next over clean bowled him and his replacement next ball. With Jabbar keen to get in on the act he too took two in two balls.

Rock took his fifth wicket in as many overs to reduce the Corinthians to 195-8, unbelievably Newland scented an improbably victory. The bat was crowded for the final two overs but Newland had to settle for the unlikeliest of winning draws. Locke 5-54, he was 0-43 at one stage and Jabbar 3-34 were the wicket takers for Newland.
