THE Worcester Youth Games will have more than top sporting excitement to capture the imagination of the 2,000 competitors and spectators expected at Droitwich Spa on Sunday.

This year's games are being hosted by Wychavon District Council and staff have pulled out all the stops to make it a day to remember.

As well as competitions to find the country's best sporting youngsters, there will be a free live concert by top bands, a host of children's entertainment and a food court with an array of delicious treats.

The Games is the county's largest sporting event of the year and is set to attract more than 600 competitors and 1,500 spectators. Each of the six local authorities provide teams who will compete in a variety of sports including basketball, football, hockey, mixed tag rugby, netball and tennis.

Wychavon will be represented by youngsters from Evesham, Droitwich Spa, Pershore and the district's villages.

Wychavon's Leisure Officer, Sue Healey has been working closely with the Council's Sports Development team led by Steve Brewster, in organising the event.

The venue for the games will be split between Droitwich Spa Leisure Centre, Droitwich Spa High School and Westacre Middle School.

The Opening Ceremony will be held at 10am in the Leisure Centre arena, tournaments officially start at 10.45am.
