THAI boxer John Wyatt admitted his weekend fight in Russia was one of the experiences of his career - but it also marked his only knockout.

Wyatt's scheduled opponent was changed and the replacement was a former world champion who caught him with a fine punch in the third round.

The 32-year-old was stopped for the first time and ended up regretting taking on a fight only a few weeks after a controversial defeat in Milan.

However, Wyatt confessed the five-star reception he was given and the clash in front of 25,000 in Moscow's Olympic Stadium will stay with him.

He said: "I gave a stone-and-a-half away and to be fair, it was probably too quick after my last fight. I also had a cold.

"The first two rounds were even-stevens but in the third I dropped my guard and he came through with a big right.

"He put me on my backside and all I can remember was being a bit dazed and the referee counting me out.

"I've never been stopped before despite some good whacks so it's been a shock.

"He was strong and I had my hands full. If it had gone the distance, I'm not sure I'd have done enough to beat him. When you fight big blokes, it only takes one punch.

"The Russians were really friendly and the guy apologised for knocking me out."

Wyatt plans to leave at least six weeks between his fights now.
