A Kidderminster nightclub bouncer who butted a man in the face and damaged two teeth has been ordered to pay £500 compensation to his victim.

David Knight had originally been ordered to do 200 hours community service when he appeared at Worcester crown court last August.

But the court was told on Friday that he had been unable to carry out the work because of an ankle injury.

Recorder Michael Keehan QC revoked the community service order and substituted a two-year conditional discharge.

Knight, 34, of Hume Street, Kidderminster, pleaded guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm and was ordered to pay £500 compensation to David Nicklin within 28 days.

Mr Simon Phillips, prosecuting, said Knight was on duty at Time nightclub, Blackwell Street in January last year when he was in an argument with Mr Nicklin. Knight had butted Mr Nicklin, damaging his teeth and causing a cut on his chin which needed six stitches. Knight claimed it had been an accidental clash of heads.

Mr Nicolas Cartwright, defending, said Knight had spent three weeks in custody after the incident. It was not his fault that he had been unable to carry out community work. He had recently obtained work as a forklift truck driver.

Recorder Keehan said Knight had committed a "serious and nasty" assault which had caused considerable injury. The offence often merited custody.
