UNLUCKY Tanworth were beaten finalists for a second year running in the annual Alcester Police Schools 5-a-side football tournament.

The competition, at Alcester's St Benedict's School, had to be played over six pitches due to the numbers involved.

In the 11 and under tournament there were 26 junior teams from 19 junior schools.

The winners of four leagues went through to the semi-finals where Tanworth beat St Faith's A 2-0 while Wilmcote saw off Henley Junior 3-0.

The final was played with much passion and good football with Wilmcote winning the Stratford Crime Prevention Panel Shield 4-1, Tanworth losing out in the final once again.

There were eight teams in the 14 and under competition for the Studley Lions Trophy. The two leagues were well contested with a lot of commitment and good football.

The final was between local rivals Alcester High A and St Benedict's A with the former taking the honours for a second year running after a hard-fought 2-0 victory.

In the 16 and under competition there were also eight teams in two leagues.

And it was again an all-Alcester final with Grammar School A taking on St Benedict's A.

A fast, free-flowing game saw both teams giving it their best with St Benedict's notching the only goal of the game to take the Alcester Lions Shield.

The organisers would like to thank all those who took part and helped, especially referees, score-keepers, the Red Cross, St Benedict's and Warwickshire Council without whom the event could not take place.
