BROMSGROVE Swimming Club came within a whisker of winning round two of this season's diddy league, the most prestigious tournament for nine to 12-year-old club swimmers.

In a tight contest at Cheslyn Hay on Saturday, they were always in contention to win the contest, and built on a solid start made in the first round.

In the end the town youngsters fell just three points short of Lichfield's 165 points on the night.

Life in Division Two after last year's promotion is a significant step up in class, and yet the town's youngsters refuse to be overawed.

Bromsgrove's first wins came from ten- year-olds Ryan Cooper and Rebecca Mullett in the 50m breaststroke events.

This was followed shortly afterwards by the 11-year-old girls freestyle relay team of Olivia Alton, Hannah Brehaut, Amy Wright and Emilly McNally.

Long wait

There was then a long wait before the town could celebrate another win with the 12-year-old girls winning their relay with Loren Harrison, Camilla Roome, Emily Luke and Katherine Perry doing the honours.

There was more relay success in the final event, the mixed cannon with Nia Barrett, Steve Ashford, Sarah Swan, Tom Mansell, Sam Timbrell.

Previous winners Harrison, Cooper and McNally came home in front of a very excited crowd, creating a real cauldron of noise.

The spirit amongst the team justs gets better and better and performances are improving every week with many personal bests and real gutsy swims.

l The club is short of swimmers in certain age groups.
