DROITWICH Spa was brought to a standstill during rush hour after roadworks caused traffic chaos.

Drivers were bumper to bumper for two hours on Monday night when vehicles were diverted away from Kidderminster Road, around the Berry Hill Industrial Estate.

It led to a gridlock on the A38.

A Wychavon District Council highways partnership spokesman said the diversion was created because of re-surfacing work in Kidderminster Road.

He added: "We'd put advance signs out and some people were ignoring them, turning round and causing more problems."

The work was expected to last three days.
