A DANGEROUS Redditch junction is the focus of a campaign to cut the death and injury toll to motorcyclists.

The slip roads between the A441 Alcester Highway and A448 Warwick Highway are two of the worst spots for accidents involving motorbikes according to West Mercia police.

Last week, the force launched a major initiative which will see high-profile police patrols in the area and speed checks.

More than 20 bikers were killed in the force area last year and 496 were injured.

On a national scale, motorcycles make up less than one per cent of all traffic yet riders and passengers account for almost 10 per cent of those killed or injured on the roads.

West Mercia figures show that riders of bikes of 125cc or less are most likely to be killed or injured, mostly in urban areas.

During the campaign, officers will be offering advice on safety gear and training but will also take action against excessive speeders.
