TENANTS from a Droitwich block of flats were due to host a meeting tonight after their homes were damaged in an arson attack.

None of the residents was injured after the blaze broke out at Charland Court, in Shepherds Way, on Monday, May 7, but 11 people were temporarily re-housed.

Spa Housing Association, which owns the flats, has since pledged to install smoke alarms within the development - even though they are under no legal obligation to do so.

The meeting was set to be held at Westlands Community Hall, on the Westlands Estate, at 7.30pm.

Tenants have been invited to attend the meeting, together with Donna Baddeley of the housing association, Councillor Peter Pinfield, and the fire service.

"I arranged the meeting because this is obviously a very serious situation," said Louise Jefferies, a Charland Court tenant.

"We don't have any security at the flats. And we only have one escape route."

Donna Baddeley of Spa Housing Association welcomed the meeting with residents, but stressed that the issues to be tackled would focus on crime and vandalism problems, not the buildings themselves.
