WORCESTER Stirling Triathlon Club's veterans were in sparkling form when the club staged its annual Malvern Spring Triathlon.
The race consisted of a 400 metre swim at Malvern College before a 25km bike up the Malvern Hills and around country lanes before the final 5km run over Malvern Common with some tough uphill sections.
Pete Jansen won the super veterans category for the host club in one hour 16 minutes 48 seconds, while Les Bailey took the ultra veterans title in 1.19.35.
Dennis Dovey completed a hat-trick of wins for Worcester by taking the ultra-ultra men's veteran title in 2.12.36.
A record 192 entries made for some competitive racing in all categories with the men's open race being won by Chris Elias from Tewkesbury Tri in 1.52, Mike Lyons from Multisport Racing was second in 1.6.27 while junior Jonathan Stedman from Worcester finished third in 1.6.57 which made him top junior.
Paula Adams from Birmingham University took the women's title in 1.11.17, with Helen Ruffell from Asics TFN second in 1.14.23 and third Sophie Boynton from Newark Tri in 1.17.04.
Other club members times were: Johnny Stephens 1.9.59;Keven May 1.14.03; Mark Johnson 1.21.17; Ros Townsend Hope 1.24.53; Gail Flnaghan 1.26.21; Alec Bond 1.29.03; Andy Price 1.38.12.
The prizes were presented by Sue Bathgate, a former world champion in her age group in Montreal 1999 who is from Tewkesbury and won the woemn's super veterans class in 1.20.35.
The event was concluded with an 8-12 children's race which was hotly contested: Wave one, Richard Carter; wave two, Lucy Hall; wave three, Sarah Keynon.
