WESLEY Joyce hopes to make more of a name for himself at Worcester City after his match-winning Dr Martens Cup semi-final display.

The 19-year-old has made a handful of first-team appearances since making his debut in the final game of last season.

But he has really come to the fore in the last two games. Following an impressive display filling in as a wing-back and ploughing gamely through the mud against Welling United last week, he then came on as substitute in the cup semi-final against Newport .

Joyce, who has come through the youth and reserve ranks at St George's Lane, is delighted to be a part of the first-team picture.

He said: "I will always enjoy it when I play. I am trying to get myself a starting position every week in the team, and I think I did a decent enough job in there. If it is in conditions like on Saturday, it doesn't bother me.

"I will always wait as long as it takes, and when I get my chance I will take it.

"I enjoy it here - they are a good bunch of lads who are always on a high and like to have a laugh."

Joyce is one of a group of promising locally-based youngsters who have been given a chance to shine at first-team level by manager John Barton.

Winger Jamie Hyde and goalkeeper Paul Wyatt have also filled in with distinction, and Joyce has also done so in a variety of positions - he has filled in as a central defender and striker as well as at wing-back, and scored his first first-team goal against Stafford earlier this season.

For the moment he's just keen to get some more games under his belt, having had little reserve action in recent weeks owing to the weather.

"It's just a question of getting experience," he said. "If I get a few games under my belt I will be flying."
