THE Rev D G Griffin is obviously an American-hater (You Say, April 2).

The USA could be the most expansionist country in the world with the power she commands, yet defends freedom worldwide and never strives to impress her will on those countries.

She did come into the war after Pearl Harbour, but chose to come over here to help settle our war first when she could have ignored us and confined herself to the Pacific.

She cannot be blamed for rejecting the environmental agreement, as Clive Smith suggests, because we have now pandered to the American-hating French and joined a Euro-army which, despite Blair's mumbling assurances, is disliked by the USA.

We are driving America into isolationism, rejecting the best friend we've ever had in order to cosy up to the most treacherous set of countries we've ever known. We have chosen a very dangerous course for us and our children.

J WILSON SMITH,

Malvern.
