A PERFORMANCE by a soprano with the famous D'Oyley Carte opera company will be one of the highlights of a "musical spectacular" in Kidderminster.

Town group The Valentines have organised a charity concert boasting the talents of singer Kiera Lyness at Kidderminster Town Hall.

The concert, on April 21, will also feature the award-winning Blaenavon Male Voice Choir and accomplished concert pianist Jonathan French.

Kiera, originally from Wolverley, is also an extra with the BBC Singers and the Royal Opera House Chorus.

She has studied in Holland and travelled extensively, as well as playing violin with the Holywell Ensemble, who have just released the fourth recording in their highly acclaimed survey of British 20th century chamber music.

The concert, which starts at 7.30pm, aims to raise funds for Kemp Hospice and Headway.

Valentines' musical director Pam Cunningham said of Jonathan French, who lectures at the Birmingham Conservatoire: "He took the audience by storm when he performed Lizst's Hungarian Rhapsody at a recent Valentines concert at Hartlebury Castle.

"Our own choir will be providing its usual popular varied fare, including songs from the shows, international folk songs, and the new National Association of Choirs' Let The Earth Resound" she added.

The Blaenavon Male Voice Choir have a proud tradition of travelling the country raising thousands for worthy causes.

They have regularly enjoyed success in Eisteddfod competitions, including a three-year unbeaten spell.

Tickets for the concert, which are already selling well, are priced £6.50 for hall seats or £7.50 on the balcony. They are available by calling 01562 630914.
