BOURNEMOUTH 3, COLWALL 1
COLWALL Womens Hockey Club played the West Premier League leaders on Saturday and could have collected points but for some dubious appearing umpiring decisions.
Colwall enjoyed much of the possession during the first quarter of the match and were only denied an early goal by some inspired goal keeping. Sue Williams, Karen Hackley and Nicky Hannigan had shots cleared off the Bournemouth goal line.
Bournemouth then gradually started to make inroads into the Colwall defence but brave and disciplined tackling from Emma Twig and Vicky Riley prevented any chances that came their way.
The turning point of the game came minutes before half time when Bournemouth took full advantage of a poor decision by the umpire and scored as a result. Not deterred by this Colwall surged forward and created some excellent chances once more but to no avail.
With all to play for Colwall began the second half determined to get something form the game but with numerous chances going astray it didn't seem as if it was their day.
Bournemouth then scored two opportunist goals which sealed the game but Colwall remained defiant to the end and scored an excellent goal through Polly Bounds to make the final score 3-1.
Despite this disappointment Colwall played some excellent hockey and hope to show this form tomorrow (Saturday) when they play Portishead Firebrands at Ledbury Leisure Centre, start 12.30pm.
