JEAN Cousins (You Say, February 24) has got it wrong when she writes about defying the Government.
The Transport Act, which empowers local authorities to introduce minimum concessionary fares of one half and abolish the annual bus pass of £8, also advises that where current concessions are superior (as is the case of pensioners living in Worcester City) these concessions can be maintained.
All expenditure incurred on the implementation of the new minimum fares are to be met by Central Government.
The Act will benefit millions, especially those living in the country areas. The Policy and Resources Committee should reconsider.
W H FORRESTER,
Worcester.
