VILLAGERS in Long Compton hope their fund-raising efforts for the victims of India's recent Gujarat earthquake will hit the £1,000 mark.
They took over the village hall and held a bring and buy sale which has already generated in excess of £800 towards the Red Cross' relief effort.
June Dobson, one supporter of the event, said it had been a real village effort and she particularly praised the work done by the school.
Anne Bardsley, a teacher at Compton District Primary School, said the 60 pupils learnt about the earthquake and its effects and many of the children donated toys, clothes and books for the sale.
