JUST before Christmas, the Government rushed through legislation which effectively tampers with our democracy.
Typically, any group wishing to stand candidates for local or national government must first be registered, which involves significant bureaucracy and cost.
Through its sheer complexity and scope for error, the Act will turn law-abiding people into criminals.
However, at least someone will benefit. The new legislation un-levels the playing field very much in the Government's favour for a euro referendum.
They have already earmarked over £15m of taxpayers' money for promoting the euro, compared with £13m for extra flood defences.
This comes from a Government that claims to promote "human rights"; a party that hypocritically ignored the spirit of their own law in fixing the selection of their London Mayoral candidate.
