A MALVERN nurse was attacked on Wednesday night and left lying unconscious in the Community Hospital car park.

The attack took place at around 10.15pm, after the nurse was hit on the back of the head. When she failed to return home her husband contacted the hospital. Staff checked the car park and found her lying beside her car.

A police spokesman said that a man approached the nurse from the back of the hospital as she was putting her bag in the car.

She asked him if he was looking for the hospital entrance and he said he was. But minutes later she felt a presence behind her and was hit on the head from behind.

The police say the motive for the attack appeared to be theft, but they were unable to confirm if anything was taken.

The nurse was taken by ambulance to Worcester casualty, where she later discharged herself with minor injuries.

Detective Insp Graham Smith said her injuries could have been more serious.

"We're in the process of following up leads that will bring this woman's attacker to justice," he said.

The man police are looking for is described as a white male, about 5ft 9ins tall, of medium build, scruffy looking with short dark hair. He was wearing dark clothing and a dark jacket that may have had a hood.
