SINCE the inception of Malvern Town Council, I have observed their progress with interest.

In principal, I was in support of such an organisation, hoping that, as a body, they would address some of the issues overlooked or ignored by Malvern Hills District Council. As a ratepayer I read with horror that councillors voted to raise the precept by over 60 per cent.

The Town Council has consistently failed to deliver results over the past four years and is widely regarded as a bureaucratic nightmare and certainly surplus to civic requirements. The Town Council should now be disbanded with staff and property being absorbed, where possible, into MHDC, from whence some of them came in the first place. Any extra rate is sorely needed by MHDC - though not 60 per cent for goodness sake.

Please let's start the new Millennium, both at national and local level, with less political gobbledegook and playing of the bureaucratic numbers game and more common sense coupled with action.
