6 I AM not at all sure what H Ray is trying to prove (You Say, January 16) in his lengthy diatribe. But may I remind him of what I actually wrote in my earlier letter, which was that the barbed wire lined the fields on posts about two to three feet from the hedge, with red flags at intervals.

There was no barbed wire on top of the six-foot wire netting, stapled to rustic poles and largely hidden by damson trees, so his comparison to Stalag 13 is absolute nonsense.

And as for fox-hunting, that's definitely the cruellest sight in the countryside.
