MORETON: The sad news of the death of the Queen was received in Moreton about 7.30 on Tuesday evening with the profoundest regret. Through the kindness of Lady Clementine Mitford, the public were, in the morning, informed as to the condition of the deceased monarch when a copy of a telegram sent to her Ladyship was placed in one of the windows of the Post Office.

FARM AND GARDEN: The Toad and the Farmer. The farmer has no firmer friend than the toad; yet there are few creatures more disliked and despised. Its ugly shape and wart-covered skin are probably to a great extent responsible for its malignment. But its value lies in its diets. Analysis of their stomachs shows that fourth fifths of toads' is made up of small insects and animals which are 'undesirable' to the farmer.

Road Safety: In his report to the North Cotswold Road Safety Committee at their meeting last week, the County Road Safety Organiser, Major General Jones, contended a Royal Commission on Road Safety should be set up. If it was thought necessary, he said, to have a Royal Commission on such subjects as betting and the press, why not on road safety where many lives and millions of pounds were involved annually.

COTSWOLD: A petition calling for the abolition of the three electoral wards at Chipping Campden has been presented to the Cotswold District Council by 42 local government electors at Campden.
