BRINTONS retained top spot in the Banks's Brewery League Division One South with a 3-1 victory over Lye Town at the Oldington ground.

The leaders began well with a shot by Jordan on five minutes forcing a save from the away keeper.

However, Lye nearly broke the deadlock eight minutes later as Pace pulled off a tremendous stop to prevent a shot from the edge of the box hitting the top corner.

But Brintons took the lead on 25 minutes when Dew found Jordan 20 yards out and his pass was volleyed home by Allen.

Lye drew level but Brintons regained the lead just before the break when Flowers found Dew in midfield and his long shot deflected past the keeper.

The visitors dominated for long periods of the second half looking for the equaliser but strong defensive play by Perry, Carter and Baylis kept the visitors at bay.

Brintons wrapped up the points just before time when Maffei played the ball to Allen who scored his second of the match.

Fixture, Saturday: Brintons v Droitwich Spa (Worcestershire Junior Cup semi-final) - players to meet at Oldington at 12.45pm.
