CHADDESLEY Corbett dealt a huge blow to Bewdley Town's league title hopes when they won a battle at Longmore 2-0.

The home side were determined there would be no repeat of the 9-4 thrashing they took from Bewdley earlier in the season.

And Chaddesley took control from kick-off, taking the lead after 12 minutes when Chris Bow's low cross was calmly side-footed home by fellow striker Andrew Baylis.

They thought Jamie Gardiner had scored a second but his shot hit the underside of the bar and did not bounce over the line according to the referee.

But Bewdley almost levelled when Gavin Smith broke through the defence and hit a good shot which forced a superb one-handed save from debutant keeper Neil Evans.

A second goal came Chaddesley's way when Bow was tripped by Bewdley keeper Tom Stewart just outside the area and the striker fired the resulting free-kick into the corner of the net.

The visitors made two half-time changes and piled on the pressure, doing everything but finding the back of the net.

Bewdley's star striker Grant Gibbs was mostly marked out of the game by man-of-the-match Sam Pountney and he saw his only chance crash against the post seconds after the re-start.

The promotion chasers hit the woodwork again then had two efforts cleared off the line, Evans also saving a Neil Turford effort by flicking it onto the crossbar.

With only 15 minutes left, Chaddesley were reduced to 10 men when midfielder Ashley Philips was sent off for retaliation.

A Ted Baylis header was well saved by Stewart but Bewdley were also reduced to 10 men when Gary Middleton was red-carded for bringing Baylis down.

Alex Kilgour hit the Bewdley bar from a free-kick in the dying minutes of the match.
