DELIGHTED chairman Chris Reynolds has praised his Stourport Swifts players after the club charged into the FA Vase last 16 for the first time.

Swifts thrashed 10-man Mickleover Sports 5-2 on Saturday in front of a healthy 230-plus crowd at Walshes Meadow.

Nineteen goals in five games have catapulted Rod Brown's men into the fifth round - the best by a Worcestershire club since Evesham United reached the quarter-finals in 1992.

A tough away trip to Ryman League Division Two leaders Tooting and Mitcham United awaits the Midland Alliance side on February 10.

But Reynolds declared the Swifts feared nobody in their pursuit of the cup final at nearby Villa Park.

They are unbeaten in six games after thrashing Cradley Town 4-0 on Tuesday night with two more goals from top scorer Lee Booth.

Reynolds said: "I feel we are much more of a team this year. Every year, we seem to be progressing slightly and we are more solid all round at the moment.

"We have players who can come off the bench and do a good job. It's difficult to pick your first 11, unless there are injuries and suspensions.

"Winning becomes a habit and I'm sure it will make our league form better. We are playing so well and are ready for anyone."

Tooting and Mitcham, a Premier Division club until 1989, will be a completely different proposition to Derbyshire side Mickleover. Lethal striker Nigel Webb has blasted 30 goals in just 26 games and they are unbeaten at home.

Reynolds admitted: "There won't be any easy teams now and it will be a great game.

"Mickleover were a very physical side and strong although not dirty but they were a little one-paced and we caught them on the hop quite a few times.

"It was one of those days when everything went right."

Reynolds was happy with the crowd but confessed an away tie could possibly help the Swifts financially.

He explained: "The crowd was given as 230 but there were probably about 300 there if you take free tickets into account. That's almost trebled our normal attendance so it's brilliant.

"They give you progress money, it was something like £800 for last Saturday. It's terrible to say it but we're probably better off financially playing away because there are no costs for putting the game on."
