A CHARITY gig featuring six local bands will be held at The Greig Centre on Saturday with The Mod Squad topping the bill.

Nu-Year Mayhem has been organised by The Mod Squad in aid of Stratford organisation Springfield Mind, and incorporates a range of musical styles including punk, rock and indie/alternative.

The three-piece funk/punk Morso, punk band TWR, Shiva, which has been described as "The All Saints - but with guitars," 7 Years Bad Luck and The Wind-Eating Indigo Pirates will be joining The Mod Squad onstage at the Alcester venue.

Ska/pop/punk band The Mod Squad has been together for about eight months and is made up of vocalists Hez, Amy and Tom, guitarists Liam and Olly, bassist Stu and drummer Sam.

All seven 16 to 18-year-olds are or have been Stratford High School students and began doing gigs at schools in the area.

They played at Kelly's, Leamington on December 21, are in the process of lining up gigs for the next few months and will be performing in the Battle of the Bands final at Stratford Civic Hall in July.

Vocalist Thomas Herraty said: "We might be called The Mod Squad but we're not mods. We started off doing Battle of the Bands at Shottery where we performed a couple of mod covers and won so we carried on and gradually did less and less of the covers, unless they were faster punk versions, but by this time the name had stuck."

Tickets for Nu-Year Mayhem cost £4 on the door but anyone interested should call the Greig Centre box office on 01789 400073 to check their availability.
