ALVECHURCH - The sad though expected news of the death of the Queen was announced to the public by the solemn peals from the bells of the parish church.
A flag, half mast, is flying from the flag staff on the tower.
On Sunday, special prayers were offered by the Ven Archdeacon Walters on behalf of Her Majesty.
At the meeting of the local branch of the Manchester Unity of Oddfellows on Wednesday, a concert which should have been held today (Saturday) was postponed and it was unanimously agreed to send a message of condolence to King Edward VII.
