IDEAS came flooding in from Bromsgrove traders to give the town's Spadesbourne Brook a makeover and turn it into a real attraction.

Sue Cupitt, from the family-run jewellers, Cupitts, in The Strand, said it was a lovely feature of the town and could be enhanced by flowers or decorations on the railings.

She said: "We used to have a scheme where traders put planters and baskets full of flowers in High Street.

"That would also really brighten up the area by the brook."

The bridge, near Mill Street, was one area which traders said needed a facelift.

They suggested making the waterway into more of a feature, like Bourton-on-the-Water.

Midland South African Goods boss Dennis Stewart said: "It is one of the first parts of the town that visitors see and we need to make the most of it."

Re-vamping the area is just one of the aims of the group in a bid to bring shoppers to the town and to boost trade.

If the brook is made into a beauty spot workers could have their lunch there.

BROMARK even discussed putting a bench for passers-by to stop and enjoy the view.

Treasurer Shaun McCredie said: "It would be nice to see the brook cleaned up to add to the improvements that have already been made in the town."
