HOUSEBOUND residents in Bromsgrove need never be without a book to read -- thanks to a new initiative by the town's library.

It has gathered together a small group of volunteers who, from next month, will begin a delivery service to those unable to make personal visits to the library, in Stratford Road.

Librarian Tim Marshall said: "This is a new scheme for us in Bromsgrove and we are keen to hear from anyone who is housebound and would like books delivered to them in their homes.

"Some libraries elsewhere 'in Worcestershire have been operating a similar service for some time but we have not been able to do so because we have not had a sufficient number of volunteers.

"Now that we have, we hope people will take advantage of the service.

"However, we do need more people to help run the service and would like to hear from anyone who can spare a few hours now and again so we can build up a pool of volunteers."

He said anyone wishing to take advantage of the service should contact the library.

Deliveries will be either once or twice a month depending on the borrower's requirements.

Volunteers can also deliver books on tape and music CDs and tapes. Jigsaws may also be available to borrow.
