THE rector of St Nicholas' Church has praised emergency crews who helped him after he escaped unscathed from an horrific car crash.

The Rev David Capron was returning to Alcester, travelling over Red Hill on Monday, January 15, just before 2pm, when he blacked out.

His car then travelled along the road for a further 600 yards before crossing over the carriageway.

When Mr Capron woke up, he was looking at things from a 45 degree angle facing a tree.

But despite the terrible circumstances, Mr Capron made what he described as a "miraculous escape".

He said: "I left my car with no broken bones, no scratches and no bruises and my blood pressure and heart beat were both regular.

"I have nothing but praise for emergency crews who attended the accident, the ambulance crew, the firefighters from Stratford and Alcester and the police - they were all absolutely superb.

"They couldn't have demonstrated their professionalism or commitment any better."

Despite being unhurt, Mr Capron was taken to the Alexandra Hospital to be observed for 24 hours.

"People were coming into the A&E department all the time. It was so busy but the staff were excellent.

"I can't fault the staff in the slightest. Everything from the treatment I received to the food I was given to eat was wonderful and I was also able to receive communion from the hospital chaplain.

"Now I have been at the cutting edge of such an incident, I can really appreciate how much we should be grateful to our emergency services and our NHS staff.

"I would like to sincerely thank everyone who helped me so much after my accident."

Mr Capron will be resting for a few days before returning to St Nicholas'.
