SLEEPY Bidford is waking up to the fact that it has an important by-election on Monday. And the election, caused by the death of Alcester Rural District Councillor Dr MV Murray, should be one of the most exciting in the district since the war.
Polling takes place on Monday and all four candidates - one woman and three men - are hoping for a good turnout if the weather is favourable.
There will be two voting centres, one situated in the centre at the Crawford Memorial Hall and the other in Broom Village in the Women's Institute Hut.
All four candidates are standing as Independents and seem unanimously opposed to party politics in local government.
Perhaps the most interesting factor is the candidates are all well known local personalities who command plenty of support. This would encourage a heavy poll.
The candidates are Dr John Cavanagh, Mr Archibald Savage, Miss Dorothy Bateman and Mr Reg Parnham.
Whoever wins, Bidford can be sure of a representative interested in the affairs of the village.
