CRICKETER Nick Davies is jetting 10,000 miles to face the old enemy.

The all-rounder embarks on a month-long tour of Australia on February 1 as part of a 17-man Midlands Club Cricket Conference squad.

They will play 11 games against tough opposition and at the end of the trip will travel to Singapore to face the national team.

The 26-year-old Bromsgrove Cricket Club player said: "It should be an unbelievable experience. The standard of cricket will be very high and I can't wait.

"Because of the Ashes, I've never really liked the Australians so I'd love to beat them.

"They're famed for giving the opposition verbals but that won't worry me. It actually makes me play better and I'm not unknown to say a few words back.

"We've got a strong squad and it's thanks to Bromsgrove Cricket Club that I was selected."

The tourists will include former first-class players such as David Banks and Harshad Patel.

Nick has plenty of experience against top cricketers. He represented Worcestershire Seconds for two seasons and was in Wasim Akram's firing line last year for Bromsgrove.

Akram, one of the world's most feared fast bowlers, played for Aston Unity in the Birmingham and District League Division One in August.

Opening batsman Nick survived the onslaught and made a composed 62 as Town lost by four wickets.

The Kidderminster resident said: "I really enjoyed that challenge. His variety and pace make him a great bowler.

"Along with playing in South Africa, the duel with Wasim Akram was one of my best cricketing experiences.

"But I don't think it can get any better than touring Australia."
