BROMSGROVE continued their run of excellent form and kept their promotion hopes alive with an emphatic victory over Wolverhampton at Finstall Park on Saturday.

Their dominance was obvious from the outset and the pack had Wolverhampton on the back foot right from the kick off.

The pressure that the tight five exerted on the visiting team proved fruitful when Wolverhampton scrum half's attempted clearence was bravely charged down by open-side flanker David Cork, who followed it up to touch down for an early five-pointer.

The power of the Bromsgrove forwards was again rewarded when Bromsgrove's latest import, Dean Ball, crashed over from five yards.

Wolverhampton edged their way back into Bromsgrove territory late in the second half, but the forwards once again secured good ball, one long raking pass from Matt Birch, a burst of pace from Neil Brighton and a 80-yard chip and chase from James Robson saw Bromsgrove tie up the first half 21-0 ahead.

Camped

The second half was much the same story with Bromsgrove camped in Wolverhampton's half for the majority of the period.

Only great defence and a couple of handling errors from the Bromsgrove backline kept the scoreline down.

Sustained pressure did eventually tell, and second half tries from Steve Phillips, Tom Churchill and another from James Robson sealed a well earned victory and a valuable two points.

Matt Birch continued his great kicking form with four out of five conversions and late replacement James Udy also bagged a late conversion.

l Bromsgrove travel north on Saturday in an exciting NPI cup tie against John Bentley's Cleckeaton, who are riding high in Yorkshire One.

A victory will put Bromsgrove only two games away from a Twickenham showdown. This cup run and a promotion run-in will lead to some very exciting fixtures at Finstall Park over the next few weeks.
