HUNDREDS are expected to give their views on the future development of the Droitwich Spa Canal Basin in a two-day consultation exercise.

Wychavon District Council expects a huge turnout at the meetings this Friday and Saturday when the Local Plan, which will govern future planning decisions, is also up for discussion.

A model of the redevelopment plans, drawn up with the Droitwich Spa Civic Society, will show how the derelict canalside area near Hampton Road could be turned into homes, offices, workshops, a cafe, restaurant, exhibition rooms, and a craft centre.

Society chairman Don Fletcher said: "Everyone who lives in Droitwich should take the opportunity to come along and give their views."

Also to be considered are the future location of housing, bus services, facilities for the elderly and young families, and the development of the town centre.

There will be children's activities provided including the chance to design a shop front.

Friday's consultation takes place from 11am to 7pm at St Andrew's Parish Centre, in St Andrew's Street. Saturday's event is at Fusion, 23 St Andrew's Street, from 10am to 5pm.

Issues such as economic development and the changes to local government will be dealt with at a separate meeting on Tuesday January 30.

This meeting will begin at 6.30pm at the Community Hall, in Heritage Way.
