FAIRFIELD entertained Tamworth-based side Polesworth and ran out winners in a close fought encounter.

Villa started the game brightly and had the visitors under pressure for the first 30 minutes of the game, but failed to take advantage of their possession. Four minutes before half time they had a let-off when a shot from Phil Smith beat keeper Ken Sanders which hit the bar and was cleared.

Three minutes into the second half the visitors took the lead when Phil Smith headed home from close range. This shook Fairfield up and they pressed hard for an equaliser, with Gary Hay hitting the spot in the 65th minute.

They were rewarded with a goal in the 70th minute when Junior McKeon scored with a spectacular volley from 15 yards.

Five minutes later the visitors were awarded a penalty after Sanders brought down Smith. From the resulting spot kick, Smith ballooned the ball over the bar. In the 83rd minute Villa took the lead when Ian Brown was pulled in the area and from the spot kick McKeon easily beat Russell Bannister in the visitors' goal. In the 88th minute, Brown completed the scoring with a shot from 12 yards.
