A BLOT on the landscape in Studley is to be redeveloped as a block of 12 flats if plans are given permission, writes Julian Seva.

The disused petrol station site in Alcester Road is being sought by Tamworth-based developer Thornton Baker Homes.

At a Studley Parish Council meeting last week, councillors were supportive of the development with one or two minor alterations.

The petrol station has been derelict for more than two years and is the target of vandalism and litter.

A first application to develop the site was rejected by Arden Area planning committee on December 14 as being too overbearing.

The committee will now assess resubmitted plans for two-storey accommodation.

Parish councillor Paul Beaman said: "Anything that gets that site developed to a reasonable standard is an improvement."

But the parish council has asked for an entrance to the site to be moved to a more northerly position to improve safety.

Councillor Clive Rickhards said "It's arguable that the entrance and exit as they are at the moment are quite dangerous."

People living opposite the petrol station agreed the entrance should be moved if it were turned into flats.

Resident Brian Rich said: "We would like to see the entrance moved because there's a dip in the road just before it and we are concerned about accidents.

"But everybody wants to see the site redeveloped."
