GOVERNORS at St Augustine's High School are proposing to alter the times of the school day from September.

The proposed school day would run from 9am-3.35pm instead of 9.15am-3.55pm and incorporate slight internal adjustments, such as a shorter lunch hour.

This would mean an increase in teaching time, even though the overall length of the day would be five minutes shorter.

It is hoped an earlier start time would make maximum use of prime learning time.

It is also thought the time adjustment would provide a greater opportunity for after-school activities and enable those who live further from the Hunt End school to get home earlier.

The governing body is consulting parents and other interested parties, inlcuding the LEA, on the proposal.

And it is inviting parents to submit comments in writing to headteacher at the Stonepits Lane school, Carol Buchanan, before Friday, April 6.
