THE cost of the Reddicard will be frozen at its introductory 1998 price for the coming financial year, if approved by Redditch Council's policy and resources committee.

The move comes as officers prepare to raise the profile of the Reddicard from April and there are also plans to allow concessionary charges to remain at the 1998 rate.

Concessionary card holders and their families pay £2-£5 for a Reddicard while card holders who work or live in Redditch will pay £10-£17.50 and families living outside the town up to £25.

But councillor Mike Chalk said: "As a council with responsibility for balancing the books, we have had two or three years of no change. But if we are not careful we will be in a position where we will have to put in a hefty increase, perhaps up to 10 per cent or more over three to five years."

It was proposed Reddicard activities be increased by five per cent, except badminton, squash and football pitch hire.

The same increase was suggested for the hiring of council-run community centres and non-Reddicard activities, except badminton, squash, and Palace Theatre hire.
