I WRITE in response to A Lewis' letter "Teach youngsters to be tidier" (Advertiser, January 10).
My thanks go to A Lewis for reminding readers about litter and rubbish in the borough.
With regard to the work of schools, we are happy to report schools within the borough have been extremely supportive of the work of Keep Redditch Tidy and many have invited Bin It Babe, the borough's mascot, to attend assemblies and carry out other work to raise awareness of rubbish and other related issues.
Over the coming months, all schools will be given support during their Spring Clean activities to get pupils involved in clean-up activities in and around their school.
In addition to litter, it needs to be emphasised that each and everyone of us can help keep Redditch tidy by dealing with rubbish produced at home in a responsible way.
We are appalled by the number of residents who simply dump rubbish (whether from the garden or from the home) near their homes in neighbouring shrub beds, woodland or dump it in the street. Such rubbish often becomes scattered and encourages other residents to also act irresponsibly.
Residents wishing to get rid of extra rubbish should call the town hall on 64252 or visit their neighbourhood office to book a special collection.
Help us make Redditch a better place to live and work by thinking twice about how to get rid of any rubbish. If you see other people dumping rubbish, please call us on 64252 ext 3700.
