WELLESBOURNE Airfield could be set for a major probe after Stratford District Councillors offered their sympathy for concerned residents fed-up with increases in air traffic.
It was first believed nothing could be done about the airfield because of an established-use certificate, which legally established how long there has been an airfield on the site and gives it the right to stay open.
However, Stratford MP John Maples was recently told by environment minister Chris Mullen that although the established-use rights were a legitimate part of the planning process, it was up to the council to decide whether use should increase.
A motion proposed by Councillor Keith Lambert was agreed and the policy and resources committee will now be asked to carry out an urgent review of the activities at the airfield to ensure the use is the same now as when the certificate was granted.
