ONE criticism of the "sport" of foxhunting with dogs which supporters avoid answering is the pleasure taken in the fox's death. Sport is contest between equal opponents.

How can this apply to the pursuit of one animal by say 30 horsemen and 50 hounds? Its tragic reality is the encouragement of young people to find pleasure - or at least no shame - in inflicting violent death.

If hunting is "pest control", would hunts people support a pest control operative-dressed like the Pied Piper - leading a crowd in pursuit of rats? Wouldn't they condemn it as disgraceful behaviour by yobs and the lower classes?
