These comments were based on an admission by the Home Office that the year 2000 saw our acceptance of the highest- ever number of asylum seekers. And 1999 was also a record year.
We should remember Labour Home Office Minister Mike O'Brien insisting "Worcester must accept more refugees".
However, many asylum seekers who opted for London. This was because they could collect their Benefits Agency largesse and other goodies.
