DIXIE River will get the test of stamina she requires at Fontwell tomorrow and can gain her first win for Robert Alner in the Racecourse Video Services Novices' Handicap Chase.

A winning point-to-pointer in Ireland, the mare has been very consistent for Alner this term, finishing second three times and third once in four starts.

She ran Aonfocaleile to five lengths on her handicap debut at Leicester last time, staying on at one pace.

Dixie River's form so far suggests she should have no problem winning races and with the extra three furlongs of this contest bringing her stamina into play she is taken to land the nap.

Red Imp can defy another rise in the weights by landing the Leicester Conference Centre Handicap Hurdle at the Midlands course.

Norman Mason's charge has surged 32lb up the ratings in his last four races, three of which he has won.

The five-year-old caused a 50-1 shock at Newcastle in November, scoring readily by three lengths from Flighty Leader.

And he was in the process of proving that run no fluke until falling when having every chance at Catterick on his next start.

He showed no ill effects from that experience when winning by two lengths from Woolley at Fakenham and showed further improvement when seeing off Balanak over this course and distance in December.

There seems to be no reason why he shouldn't have further progress in him and he looks to hold strong claims on his favoured testing ground.

At Wolverhampton the Barry Hills-trained Ballymagan looks to have been let in on a handy mark for the Brougham Handicap over nine and a half furlongs.

The son of Charnwood Forest won a maiden over seven furlongs at Southwell earlier this month and will appreciate this step up in trip.
