DISTRICT doctors have voted to give patients more of a say in their health care by agreeing to the formation of a primary care trust.
Wyre Forest Primary Care Group agreed to apply for health trust status at a meeting on Tuesday.
Under the trust plan doctors will be funded directly by the regional health authority rather than the present system which involves Worcestershire Health Authority providing funding and the PCG tasked with organising care.
PCG chairman Lynne Butcher said: "I am very pleased that the board has taken the decision to go forward with their application to directly manage local health needs.
"Wyre Forest PCG has been very innovative and progressive in its vision to improve patient care and it seems the right time for us to take on greater responsibility for shaping primary and community care in the future."
The application will now be put before a WHA meeting tomorrow for responses and recommendations.
It will then be sent to the Health Secretary for approval.
