TOWN made hard work of Tuesday's Worcestershire Senior Urn tie but they were full value for their second win in four days, writes Mervyn Collins.

Goals from Paul Jones and Nathan Owen gave Pershore a 2-0 lead on the half-hour and, had they converted one of three chances in first half stoppage time, there would have been no way back for the Hellenic League visitors.

However, after Owen had spurned a clear opportunity within 11 seconds of the restart, Pegasus went straight down the other end and Martin Powell halved the deficit.

It was now a different game although Pershore were still the more purposeful and dangerous.

Their efforts were rewarded just as boss Colin Shepherd was poised to make a change when, a comedy of errors from goalkeeper Andrew James ended with Ian Stewart hooking in the clincher into a gaping goal.

Travel problems caused a late start and it was the hosts who settled quickest with Jones a contact threat up front.

The bustling striker opened the scoring in clinical fashion after Owen's blistering pace down the left had prised open the Pegasus rearguard after 24 minutes.

Seven minutes later, the provider got on the scoresheet himself when he poked in Dean Emerson's far post cross.

As the interval approached there was frantic action in the Hereford side's goalmouth.

Jon Gregory had a header scrambled off the line, James blocked Owen's goalbound shot and a Jones header struck the bar.

Pershore now visit Malvern Town in the quarter-finals.
