AS a pragmatic objective researcher looking carefully at the facts, I understand the reasons why the changes are being made at Kidderminster Hospital and have every confidence that "investing in excellence" will deliver high quality health care.

Death on the road to Worcester is a big myth and anyone who does die en route (however sad that might be) is unlikely to have been saved by Kidderminster.

On the other hand, my heart tells me that the sooner someone gets into an accident and emergency unit the better chance of survival they have.

However much emphasis is put on the high quality initial care of paramedics, there is something special about the care which doctors and nurses give.

Some, of course, no longer see this as an issue about the provision of health services, but as a political campaign to ensure that David Lock is not re-elected.

Naturally, those who oppose Labour are entitled to campaign in whatever way they want to, but we are now entering a period where the interests of patients are taking second place to attacking David Lock.
