AT a time when our hearts go out to the flood victims of Bewdley, local hospital protesters have brought shame on the people of Wyre Forest.

The Prime Minister visited the town on Thursday out of genuine interest and concern for the townsfolk.

At times of disaster, political leaders visit devastated areas and are welcomed and thanked by the victims.

However, a thoughtless mob of hospital protesters shouted, heckled and insulted those who have lost much and suffered greatly, by hijacking a humanitarian visit.

A concluding comment on national television suggested that the people of Bewdley thought the campaign was more important than the devastating flood.

Try telling that to a family whose home has been ruined, whose children cannot attend a flooded school and whose business may have been lost.

Would that these campaigners put their energy into trying to ensure that health changes become efficient and effective, rather than showing neither compassion nor charity to those whose lives have been traumatised by rising flood waters.

I have long thought that these people are tilting at windmills, but quixotic behaviour is one thing - cheap, shoddy hijacking is another.

Let us all hope that the millions of people watching the national news on Thursday evening are uncaring and uncharitable towards our less fortunate neighbours.

Thank you Tony Blair and David Lock for your welcomed and prompt visit.
