A POLICE helicopter swooped out of the sky to bring staff into work at a Stourport nursing home which was left marooned by the floods.
The West Mercia chopper brought staff to the Lickhill Manor Nursing Home last Thursday because its entrance road was waist deep in water and impassable for cars.
It was also on hand to take them home, although the residents at the home did not need to be evacuated despite 3ft high water levels in parts of the surrounding grounds.
Matron Lyn Mason said: "The home was like a castle with its own moat but the water did not reach the residential part of the home as it is on higher ground than its approach road.
"The helicopter had to land on ground at Lickhill First School and the youngsters there had a great time."
Firefighters were called to the home as a precaution, and left equipment at the site last Wednesday evening in case of an evacuation.
A Stourport Fire Station spokesman said: "The equipment was left there over the weekend but the flooding had gone down drastically by Monday.
"However, the home's cellar was flooded and we had to pump it out as that is where the motor which operates the lift is located."
