THE post of chief executive of Bromsgrove District Council, which carries a salary package of £90,000 plus, is a casualty of a major restructuring programme at Burcot Lane, the Advertiser/Messenger can exclusively reveal.
It is understood that David Bryant, who took on the high-powered job from Bob Bradshaw in 1997, was told the news on Monday.
Mr Bryant could not be contacted as we went to press and council leader Cllr Nick Psirides (Con, Norton) declined to comment.
However, a senior district councillor, who refused to be named, confirmed the chief executive's role was being phased out.
"We can no longer afford to appoint someone of the calibre needed to fill the role," he said.
Recently a personnel manager who was on a salary said to be £39,000 a year was made redundant.
Mr Bryant was initially employed as treasurer, but took on both roles when ill health forced Mr Bradshaw to quit.
