Wolverhampton 7, Evesham 1

EVESHAM travelled to Wolver-hampton on Saturday to take on the league leaders and were comprehensively out played by a well marshalled home side.

Evesham got off to a poor start by conceding two early goals with the first coming from poor goalkeeping by James Nicholas.

Evesham then stepped up their game but failed to convert the few chances they had, but the experience of the team was able to soak up any pressure.

Just before half time Wolverhampton scored two quick goals and they continued their dominance in the second half and were rewarded with three more goals.

Evesham rallied towards the end of the game and were rewarded with a goal which came from a brave effort from debutant Paul Martin earning a penalty stroke which was dutifully dispatched by captain Mark Moss.

Evesham II 3, Wolves II 1

EVESHAM started slowly allowing the opposition to gain strategic advantage with several attacks on the Evesham goal.

But, goalkeeper Paul Knibs combined with backs Paul Turner and Frank Hardy made a determined effort to keep them at bay.

Then Evesham started to get into gear with some fine moves through centre midfield John Vickery up to Stuart Bearcroft and Dave Turner. Resultant shots at goal were saved but Steve Miller was on the spot to convert into the net.

Further forays resulted in another goal through Adrian Russell at midfield passing through to Bearcroft who deflected on to Mark Brown who flicked it into the net.

The second half saw another drive by Wolverhampton but sweeper Roger Hemmings took command helping to organise the defence.

Despite a few near misses, Evesham survived and Ben Brown made a run for goal dribbling past five players to score Evesham's third goal.

Khalsa III 2, Evesham III 3

PLAYING in the torrential rain and on a heavily waterlogged pitch at Warwick, Evesham faced last season's fourth placed side, desperate for their first points in the DTZ West Midlands Premier League.

Evesham found themselves able to soak up the skilful attacking play of the home side, with the in-form Cassey on hand to thwart any shooting attempts.

As the first half went on, Evesham became increasingly confident and began to move out of their own half.

However, the flourishing new found confidence was soon arrested, when the ball ran loose within the visiting D, and Evesham were 1-0 down.

Evesham, though, sensed that they could create the openings to fight their way back. Their optimism was dented ten minutes after the restart, when slack marking allowed Khalsa to double their lead.

Tireless running from Spinetti, Payne and Dennis in midfield began to pay off, and when Allan picked out a well timed run from Grant into the circle, the visitors were back in the game.

Evesham continued to press and, with only five minutes left on the clock, Grant knocked in his second for 2-2.

Content with playing out for the draw, Evesham pulled everyone back into defence. However, in the last minute,Payne moved towards the home circle on a mazy run, slipped past two defenders and slammed the ball home from an acute angle.
